We are now in Day:87489574867 of quarantine. Not really, but that’s what it feels like, right??
I am a Type 3 on the Enneagram chart. I find my worth in doing things, marking off to-do lists, staying busy with projects. I always have twenty billion projects and side hustles going on, not to mention normal day-to-day tasks, oh and my full-time job….
To say that I like to be busy is an understatement!
My favorite things about quarantine are:
1.) having time to do random house projects
2.) getting to work from home #praise
3.) not having to get ready/wear makeup/do my hair every day
4.) sleeping more!
5.) cooking most of my meals
6.) actually having time to read and finish my bookclub books AND other non-book club books!
7.) more time to Poshmark (list, photograph, organize, etc)
I’ve gotten to try sooooooo many new recipes! Some highlights from each of my favorite foodie ladies would be:
The Defined Dish: Paleo fish tacos (on the blog, not cookbook), Clayton’s Margaritas (blog, not book), Healthy chicken nuggets (book), muffuletta salad
Sababa: Pistachio-crusted lemon bars, pavlova
Eden Eats: Maple tahini swirl banana bread, cardamom coconut chocolate chip cookies
Shows I’ve watched:
1.) Ozark (all seasons)
2.) The Last Kingdom (currently on season 3)
3.) Nadiya’s Time to Eat (cooking show)
4.) Bunch of movies
5.) The Office/Parks and Rec (duh!)
6.) Tiger King!!! (of course!!!)
Projects Completed:
1.) Organized junk from my dad’s house (first batch)
2.) Made Passover dinner
3.) Built gigantic IKEA storage cube for my office/Poshmark stuff
4.) Listed over 700 items on Poshmark!
5.) Read a bunch of books
6.) Started Marco Polo-ing my friends daily (video chat app)
7.) Random other household projects
8.) Tried new self tanner, face masks, hair masks, etc
9.) Made Mom an Apple Pie (with homemade crust too!) for Mother’s Day
Projects left to complete:
1.) Hang shelves in the living room
2.) Organize all of my iPhotos into albums (longgggg overdue)
3.) Bathe Karma
4.) Continue to Poshmark
5.) Organize next round of items from my dad’s house
6.) Probably some more that I haven’t thought of!
While I have been making the most of my time in quarantine, it hasn’t all been fun and games. I miss seeing my friends, I didn’t get a real birthday party, and my dog, Karma, had to have surgery for a cancerous tumor on her chest and now it seems that she has another one lower in her belly in the next few weeks.
Even though I’ve been saving money by not going places, $3k for dog surgeries was not really part of the plan…. I’m also pretty sure that more tumors will keep popping up and I don’t know for how long it’s really feasible for her to have surgeries to remove these. She is older so I knew that at some point she would start to have more serious health issues, but all the same I still wasn’t fully ready to hear that she had cancer. I’ve been having a really hard time dealing with the future reality that she will eventually be gone. She and I get to hang out all day every day since I’ve been working from home, which is a blessing, but I will really notice her absence when she is eventually gone. I’m trying to just take it one day at a time right now and enjoy her while I still have her. She acts normal which helps, but I know it’s going to be different eventually. I’ve had her almost 7 years, but she was grown when I got her so I don’t know her actual age. She is my tiny fur child and I can’t really imagine a life without her.
Staying busy helps me keep my mind from wandering into more depressing territory. As someone who has dealt with varying degrees of mental illness my whole life I’m glad I have these coping mechanisms to help me through this period. Some people eat, run, shop, etc. I like to work and have projects!
A challenge I’m considering doing is called 75 Hard. For 75 consecutive days you follow whatever food guide you choose, read 10 pages of a non-fiction book a day, two 45-minute workouts per day (1 needs to be outside), and no alcohol. Since I can’t go to the gym and have very minimal workout equipment at home I’ve been struggling with the motivation to start this. The other kicker with the challenge is that if you miss a day you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN.
I follow a girl on IG who just completed her challenge and she looks awesome! It’s not necessarily a weight loss challenge, but more of a mental-toughness challenge. It takes a lot of discipline to do two 45 minute workouts a day!!! At the moment I walk Karma around the neighborhood once or twice a day…. not quite the same. Also trying to get back into Paleo has been more challenging than I anticipated. How did so many snacks get into my house??
How have you been coping during this new and strange season? Let me know in the comments any tips/tricks you’ve discovered during this time or any recommendations you have for recipes, workouts, projects, games, etc!
Happy Reading!
